Buffy, Books, Sharks, Soccer and Tennis

This blog post comes to you in five parts.

Part 1: Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

This is a show that I randomly stumbled upon while I was flipping through the channels while in vacation in Bulgaria a couple of years ago. I happened to like it quite a lot even though I'm not a huge fan of supernatural kind of shows. I've also heard Alex Day (nerimon) talk about it, so I decided that I would give it a try since I finished watching all the episodes of The Office. I'm almost done with the first season of Buffy and I still like the show. I thought that I would get bored of it considering that all they do is kill vampires, but I guess that's not all they do. It can be pretty freaky too especially the last episode I watched had a very creepy clown in it, and I'm very, very scared of clowns... But now I know that whenever I hear the creepy music something "scary" is going to happen or something is going to jump out at you. So yeah, I wanted to share with you  the fact that I like Buffy. Yay

Part 2: Books

I went out to breakfast with my parents today and my mom decided to get a pedicure afterward so my dad and I went to a bookstore just to pass the time (isn't this exciting?!). Of course the moment I walk into a bookstore I have to buy a book, so I headed over to the teen-lit section because I had already decided what book I wanted. I'd decided that I finally had to get myself a Maureen Johnson book. After checking all the John Green books for nerdfighter notes, and not finding any I looked for the J's and they had two of Maureen's books there. One was Bermudaz Triangle and the other one 13 Little Blue Envelopes. Now, I've heard how good both books are, and it was a hard decision and after contemplating for 15 minutes I decided to get 13 Little Blue Envelopes. So this was my great story about buying a book :0

Part 3: Sharks

My best friend Maya and I went to volunteer at the state park across the street on Saturday and we happened to be a part of the strangest thing... So we get there and the ranger that we usually help gives us some boring office work to do, we finish it, and then he gets a call from someone telling him that they found a dead hammerhead shark. He asked us if we wanted to tag along and see the shark and Maya and I of course jumped out of our seats. We went to see the shark and I have to admit that it was pretty disgusting. It smelled like death (duh, it's dead) and it was disintegrating. The rangers decided that they should cut off the head so that they could hang the skeleton somewhere, so we watched them as they cut off the head of a disintegrating shark and put it in the bag. Then Maya and I rode in the back of the truck with a shark's head next to us, and we occasionally poked the bag. We decided to name the shark Fred the Head. The sad part was that our friendship with Fred was short because we had to hang his head from a tree so that all the meat and disgusting stuff could decompose and the skeleton would be left. It was pretty disgusting and we smelled like dead fish for the rest of the day...

Part 4: Soccer

Today was a pretty big day for American soccer. I mean America made it to their first ever FIFA final. They beat Egypt 3-0, and they defeated the Spain, the team that is currently ranked as number one in the world (and has some very cute players! Have you seen Torres?!). I was very excited to see how they would play against Egypt, and I was pleasantly surprised. They played very well the first half and they defended amazingly. America had at least six men in their for most of the time, and Tim Howard is an amazing goalie, his saves just blew my mind! And America did accomplish something remarkable, they managed to score two goals against Brazil in the first half. I was amazed, and pleasantly surprised, even though I like the Brazilian team better and wanted them to win (my only reason was that I am in love with Kaka and Pato). The American defense did disintegrate a little during the second half and they allowed Brazil to even out the score, and eventually lead, and win the game. But the match was still great, and the U.S. team should be very proud because they played fantastically!

Part 5: Tennis

For the past week I've been watching and following Wimbledon nonstop, literally. I love watching the Grand Slams, and I've watched all of them this year. I've been very pleased with Federer's performance so far. He is my favorite tennis player and I think that he deserves to win this one so he can prove that he really is the best. I will feel sorry for the Brits is Murray loses though because he is a very good player, but I just don't think that he is good enough to beat Federer, but then again I could be wrong. I'm looking forward to the Federer- Soderling match tomorrow, and I hope that Fed can win it in three sets :D

If you read all this you get a hug from me, because I just realized how long this is :o. I'll go read 13 Little Blue Envelopes now, goodnight <3

Il Divo

I'm exhausted right now, so this is going to be a quick one. I was falling asleep about a minute ago but I decided to blog about today, so I'm writing this half asleep from my bed.
I went to see a "band" called Il Divo today and all I can say about them is that they are amazing! They are four guys that sing operatic pop, I think that's what they call it. It's basically really famous songs that they sing in opera voices... Here have a listen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yay4W9hkJJM
Oh and I forgot to mention that all of them happen to be very, very, very good looking (especially the American and Swiss one). Their concert was awesome and I really enjoyed listening to them sing. I mean their voices are just sooo powerful it kind of scared me at times, and let's not forget that they are lovely to look at :D
I'm literally falling asleep on the key board so goodnight. And before I pass out have a picture of them:

Tweets for Iran

I like to tell myself that I am a rather informed person and I tend to sometimes give a shit about what's going on outside my own little perfect world, and it is at times like these that I start to worry that the perfection in my own little world might be ruined by the shit in the outside world. I remember during the summer when Russia invaded Georgia I stayed up until one or two in the morning watching CNN and reading news online, trying to figure out what the hell is going on, while most of the world was engulfed into the magnificence that was the Olympics. Since the whole Iran thing started I've been watching CNN on mute most of the time, and reading tweets from Iranians. While I was amazed at the fact that so many people have become involved and have tried to show support for the Iranians during these hard times, the the ignorance that some people are showing sometimes makes me lose faith in this world.
For anyone that uses Twitter you might have noticed how some people's icons have turned green in support for Iran. One thing that caught my attention is that some people have, let's just say complained, for lack of a better word. They claim that there is no use in turning your picture green, that won't end the protests, or the violence, or fix the election. This is all true, but that one picture shows these thousands of people that someone out there actually cares about them, it shows them that somewhere, very far away, one person gives a shit about them, it shows them that these protests are not pointless, and their voices are heard. I live thousands of miles away from Iran and  I can't do anything for these people except spread the news about what's going on, and if that is the only thing I can do I want to make sure I do it.
The fact that just by putting a hash tag of #iranelection in one of my tweets and someone from Iran can come across that message and maybe it will show them that someone out there cares, and it will give them hope to keep fighting. I can't even get close to imagining what it would be like if something like this happened here and wrecked my perfect world, but I know that I would like someone to care about me.
Someone posted this on Twitter today and it really moved me: We are all Iranians now.
Here is a link to a post written by John Green, this is one of the best things I have read in a

Not so great: gaby's rambling about bad days, Iran and friends

There is one good thing about today, and it’s that I’m not sick anymore. Yahoo! Just to warn you, this blog will contain a pissed off and whiney Gaby. Proceed with caution.

First thing that happened today is I woke up too late. I hate waking up late because then you feel like your day has been wasted and you can’t really do anything. I woke up around 12, and I usually wake up around 11, and after I woke up I had a horrible headache, the kind that you usually get after sleeping too much. Then I decided to watch P.S. I love you. It was an amazing movie, don’t get me wrong, but it was just sooo depressing, I started crying about 15 minutes in the movie, and I didn’t stop until 15 minutes after the movie. I know it kind of had a happy ending, but still…

After this I got really excited because my friends wanted to have a game night at someone’s house, and I volunteered my house because we rarely hang out at my house. At the end the plans didn’t work out because I lived too far and no one’s parents were willing to drive here. This made me mad because whenever we hang out somewhere I have to drive down for about half an hour to get to that destination. Most of my friends’ families have only one working parent, while both of my parents work and have to get up early to go to work. My dad has driven me around almost everyday this week just so I can hang out with my friends. I love my friends, but it makes me mad sometimes that I will take the time to drive for half an hour just to see them almost every day, and they have never been to my house because “I live too far”.

I’ve also been watching CNN most of day, because I’ve been trying to follow the developments in Iran, and that made even more mad at myself, because here are these people whose country is on the verge of a revolution and all I care about is the fact that I can’t hang out with my friends today. But, since the thing with Iran began I have really started to appreciate the power of the internet, and especially Twitter. I stayed up until midnight reading tweets from Iranian student s and reading articles about the crisis in Iran. I mean the things that are going on there right now are seriously disturbing and someone needs to do something about it, or it’s going to become another Tiananmen Square.

On top of that one of the shelves that I have on my wall fell yesterday because I tried to change one of my light bulbs, but I was stupid enough to climb on my rolling chair and I slipped so I held onto the shelf and it fell. Now I have four holes in my wall, and I fell really bad because my dad has to fix it.

Writing about all these things actually made me feel better. Oh well, on the bright side Manchester still has a future, because they are trying to get Torres in their team. He is amazing, and he can kick Ronaldo’s ass any day.

That’s all I have to say, sorry again for this whiney thing.

i can haz a sick gaby?

I'm currently sitting on my couch and watching a really boring soccer game while my parents and their friends are talking about religion and politics, their two favorite topics. I'm extremely bored and sick, which is not a good combination. I wasn't sick until yesterday, and I thought that it was just an allergy reaction to bug spray, but then I got a fever, so I'm pretty sure it isn't. I didn't get to go out with my friends tonight and it was our last fathering before half of them leave for camp, so it was rather sad. I've been sitting on our really ugly yellow couch since around one o'clock and it's ten right now. I really don't have the strength to get up. But I did finish an entire book in those nine hours.
My mom decided to invite our friends over today, and it really wasn't a good idea 'cause I was really pissed and didn't feel like getting off my ass just to move to sit to a chair and pretend to be a part of the conversation. I was probably very rude because I didn't utter a word to the children of my parents' friends, but I really don't care right now.

I'm about to get off the couch and go pass out on my bed.
Goodnight xxx

Super Mario?

I have officially rediscovered my love for Super Mario. When I was little my dad and I would play all the time and I haven't played since I was about eight. I was really bored today so I decided to play a today, and all my old feelings toward that game came back. I mean it is just so great! I'm not as good at it as I used to be, and it's taking me a while to get used to playing it on the computer, but I still love it.

That's it for today :D

Today is awesome

Basically I've had an amazing day, I mean summer is finally here and there is nothing to worry about. So here is why today is awesome:

1. Federer won the French Open
I did have to wake up at nine o'clock in the morning (which is insanely early for me) to watch the final, but it was so worth it. Federer is the one athlete that I really do respect. He is just always so calm and he is just simply amazing. I was really excited that he won his first French Open title, and now he has a career grand slam, and tied Pete Sampras for a record of 14 Championship titles. (It's 11:11 make a wish). Sorry you had to go through this, but I'm really happy that he won :)

2. My friend and I planned a surprise birthday party for one of my friends
I've never planned a surprise birthday party before, and this was amazing. The party was supposed to be Harry Potter themed, but Party City had no Harry Potter merchandise, which made me really angry, but I did get her a tiara and a wand. The wand had a picture of Cinderella on it, but I printed a picture of the Harry Potter trio and taped that on top, so my friend was a magical princess. The surprise worked out very well because my friend did not suspect at all, and when she walked in it was as if someone had pressed pause because all of us just kind of stared at her for this one awkward moment before we screamed Happy Birthday. We had also put a bow on her boyfriend (get it? He was her present) and hidden him in the closet, and when she walked in he walked out of the closet (lolz he walked out of the closet) and she freaked out. It was pretty amazing. We had an awesome time, involving volleyball, watching He is Just Not That Into You and eating insane amounts of cake.

3. DFTBA album
I got my DFTBA album in the mail on Saturday, but I didn't get to listen to in until right now. (I'm actually listening to it while I'm writing, and Exterminate, Regenerate is on) The album is amazing, I mean I wasn't expecting anything less, but it really is awesome, and all the songs are great too :)

4. My room
I got a lot of new furniture for my room on Saturday, and it was kind of just sitting in my room, and I was planning on getting it all together on Monday, but when I got home today my mom had fixed all of it and now my room is all nice and stuff.

5. Plans
My friends and I decided to make a list of movies that we have to see together, and the list is about one page long. Every movie from The Lion King to Titanic to Ocean's 13 is on there. What we decided to do was rotate houses and watch all the movies on that list. The first movie we are watching is Forest Gump at Maya's house (remember her? My BFF) on Tuesday, and I'm excited. (I'm listening to the Absence of Christmas now :D)

So I'm currently completely exhausted. I shall go read and sleep.

Goodnight

Long time no see

It feels like I haven't written a blog in forever... As you can obviously see I couldn't blog every single day for the rest of my life, but if you really did believe me, then well, go jump in a hole :D
School is finally over, I mean I still have to go until Thursday, but all my tests are over and I'm happy with my grades, I got only one B on a final, and that was for volleyball and I actually didn't study for any of my finals!

I went to an amazing surprise party on Saturday and I had a lot of fun with all my friends, we basically spent an entire day stuffing our faces and sitting in a hot tub, it was amazing! On Friday I'm hoping to go see Up with my friend, and on Saturday I'm going over my friends' house, oh and either tomorrow or the day after tomorrow I'm sleeping over my friends house even though it is a school night.

Argh! I'm trying to write this and text at the same time and it really isn't working. I've also been tennis obssessed the last couple of days, which always happens to me when there is an important championship going on like the French Open (Roland Garros) right now. I'm a huge Federer fan and now that Nadal is off the competition I am super excited because now Roger has a real chance at winning his first French Open title. OK, no more sports talk, I don't want to kill you guys :D

Goodnight
